Day 4

“If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next.”

C.S. Lewis

Living in the Reality of Heaven

Read:

““O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-58 (ESV)

1 Corinthians 15:55-58 is a reminder of the core beliefs of Christianity, emphasizing the victory that believers have over death and sin through Christ’s resurrection. This passage gives hope and motivation to live for Christ today, as it affirms the present reality of the promise of eternal life. It highlights that without Christ, we are powerless to overcome sin and death. The phrase “our labor in the Lord is not in vain” encourages Christians to live in a way that honors God and makes a lasting impact in the world. Through this passage, we are reminded that the work we do for Christ today has eternal significance. In summary, 1 Corinthians 15:55-58 calls Christians to live for Christ today, with the assurance that our hope is secure and our labor is not in vain.

Apply:

  • How can we live in the reality of heaven today, rather than just waiting for the future?
  • What are some practical ways we can abound in the work of the Lord?
  • How can we keep our focus on our heavenly calling even in the midst of trials and difficulties?

Take Action:

Identify one area of your life where you can abound in the work of the Lord, and make a plan to take action in that area today.

Pray:

Lord, thank you for the victory we have in Christ and the hope we have in heaven. Help us to live in the reality of heaven today, abounding in the work of the Lord and making a lasting impact in the world. Give us strength to persevere through trials and difficulties, knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain. Amen.
